An American-Arab born and raised along the El Paso-Juarez border, Ms. Haddad has enjoyed performing leading roles in operas as well as in solo and chamber music recitals as both pianist and singer, nationally and internationally, on stage, television and radio.
Music has been a lifelong passion that began with formal training and performances as a child in piano, singing, dance, choir and band. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Piano Performance and a minor in vocal performance with multiple honors such as Outstanding Music Student, First Place in the university’s annual Concerto and Aria Competition in voice, First Place in the El Paso Symphony Guild’s Young Artist Competition in piano as well as served as El Paso Pro-Musica’s Young Artist of the Year 1995 – 1996.
Professionally, she has enjoyed studying and performing operatic roles such as Rosina (Il Barbieri de Siviglia), Gilda (Rigoletto), Mimi (La Boheme), Queen of the Night and the First Lady (Die Zauberflote), Lisette (La Rondine), Violetta (La Traviata). She enjoys performing in collaborative classical concerts featuring her piano duo and classical vocal repetoire such as art songs by Gabriel Faure, Manuel de Falla, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, Dvorak and other great classcial composers.
She studied extensively under internationally renowned tenor Lazarro Ferarri, retired Metropolitan Opera conductor Bill Weibel, Debria Brown, Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim, Dr. Neil Stannard, Hal Lanier, Pedro Yanez and Martha Ramirez-Welch. She has been coached by Caterhine Ciesinski, Dr. Sharon Radionoff, Bridgette Hooks, Pablo Zinger, Federico Cortese, Melissa Parks, Ted Taylor, Stephen Prutsman, Nohema Fernandez, Dr. Victor Rosenbaum, Luis Battle and Michael Kannen.
Currently, she is collaborating with fellow musician Donn Dubois in conceiving, producing and recording original works on her soon to be released debut album, “Classically Undone." A multi-faceted artist, Mariam has taken sound pictures from her artistic life as a classical pianist, opera singer, composer and poet to create a refreshing new sound blended from the worlds of classical music and literature, world music, pop and jazz.
